JASPER, AL (October 12th, 2008) – Crimson Tide anglers Daniel Statum, Joe Humphries, Warren Hoffman and Rusty Jones combated falling water, changing weather and stiff peer competition on their way to earning CBAA gold in the inaugural South East Championship on Alabama’s Lewis Smith Lake.

Alabama’s domination of the field resulted from two days of patience and quick reflexes needed for shaky head fishing.  Alabama angler Rusty Jones related that each day began with a 30 minute boat ride and hitting many spots throughout the day.  This strategy paid dividend as Crimson Tide team mates combined for 12.93 pounds on day one and 9.40 pounds on day two for a total of 21.65 pounds and the championship.  Silver medal efforts went to University of Tennessee anglers Nick Tate, Drew Newell, Robert Stewart, Tyler Black, Jeremy Henry, and Frank Meredith with 9.96 pounds.  Bronze medal accomplishment went to the University of Arkansas anglers Bodie Drake, Jesse Gentry, Josh Robinson and Bill Bond with a team catch of 4.13 pounds.  Thought fishing proved to be tough with the slot angler’s energy and moral was high on the event and the opportunity to be part of the founding fathers of what’s sure to be a jewel in collegiate angling.

All anglers extend their thanks and appreciation to the CBAA, Walker County Camber of Commerce and event partners for this opportunity.  Trophies and titles were fought for and awarded at Smith Lake, but the biggest winner this weekend was collegiate angling.  This would not have been possible without the support of student anglers of the Bayou Regional and South East Championship event partners; Walker County Chamber of Commerce, Midwest Trophy & Recognition, Alabama Bass Federation, Walker County Commissioner Dual Tubbs, Jameson Inn, Jim & Nicks, Auburn University Alumni, Walker County Sheriffs Department, Alabama Power Authority, and Evergreen TwinStar,  Job well done!   Stay tuned for continued CBAA coverage of the 2008 South East Championship and Bayou Regional.
